Βy: George Nikolaidis & George Tsouvelas
Our current review portrays the phenomenon of violence on the premises of services that provide aid for children with disabilities. The existing empirical evidence on the incidence and prevalence of abuse and neglect of children with disabilities presents limitations regarding issues of lack of both, widely accepted, conceptual as well as operational definitions of abuse - neglect, and significant problems in the methodological design of the available studies. Furthermore, concise reference on critical issues such as multi-victimization, underreported incidents, the profile of perpetrators and the systemic violence resulting from recycling and interacting factors, is provided. Finally, conclusions and recommendations on health policies are indicated through the perspective of protecting children with disabilities from all forms of abuse.
